LMI@Work: Using Workforce, Employment and Economic Information -- for Jobseeker and Employer Success

Method: Consultation
Topics: WIA and Partner Programs and Staff Development

Workforce development professionals at the front-line need the skills and knowledge to effectively access and apply a wide spectrum of workforce and economic data. When applied appropriately, this data ensures that jobseeker and business customers receive expert advice and recommendations.

Based on a review of existing state training outlines and materials and a development partnership with program experts, two customized labor market information courses were developed. The major learning objective of these courses is to translate use of the data to common one-stop center activities and transactions with both job seeking and business customers. The training courses were pilot tested (NY, TX and ND) and received the highest ratings.

In addition to classroom and computer lab versions of the training, it is also available as a self-paced web-enabled course online at the CESER site: www.workforceatm.com.

"Getting staff to know about and effectively use workforce data is an ongoing capacity building challenge. With Melanie's training and content know-how - and participation from subject matter experts, CESER now offers an effective primer to build skills for one-stop staff nationwide."
