As innovators, the First Coast workforce development professionals were ready in 2002 for a more strategic approach to acquiring new business customers and delivering services to targeted industries.
With an integrated team of eight "business consultants" in place, the project objectives were twofold: (1) facilitate development of the business model and implementation plan; and (2) help build staff capacity and innovative service delivery initiatives.
For the business model, regional economic and workforce data were utilized; targets established, and an account management system launched. On the service delivery side, business services were triaged; new services launched including fee-for-service pilots; and team-building training delivered. Along the way, the executive team fully endorsed the approach, participated in development, and addressed all concerns and issues. Today, they are recognized as leaders in business service strategy and delivery.
