Services Workforce Development Staff

As the
One-Stop system evolves, the staff needs to expand services they
offer to business customers. The Business Services Workforce
Development Staff Training Series was designed to help local
system’s meet this challenge. This training will enhance
the skill set of staff who want to improve their contacts with
businesses as well as for individuals who will be contacting
businesses for the first time. The four modules are:

Developing
a Business-Driven System.
Many
of the changes proposed in the reauthorization of the Workforce Investment
Act are designed
to enhance the system’s services
to local business customers. To help them meet the new goals, One-Stop
staff will need to deliver a wider array of just-in-time services
for a competitive advantage. |

Developing & Maintaining
Relationships with Local Businesses.
Developing long-term relationships with local businesses is important
due to U.S. DOL’s emphasis on enhancing the One-Stop system’s
services for businesses. In response, One-Stop systems across the country
are building relationships with new business customers while developing
stronger relationships with existing customers. |

Building
Marketing Into Daily Work Activities.
One of constant challenges named by local One-Stop staff is the lack
of marketing materials that can be used on the local level. While these
marketing materials are important, it is equally important for local
One-Stop staff to understand that marketing is “everything that
happens in the One-Stop center.” Therefore, it is critical that
business services staff apply the four marketing principles to build
a greater awareness of the services that are offered, and to build
a larger, committed business customer base. |

Helping
Businesses Recruit & Retain the Best and Brightest.
All businesses
struggle to find and keep skilled employees. And, local businesses
want the One-Stop business consultants to help them find solutions
to their hiring and turnover problems. In response, local One-Stop
staff need to offer solutions and best practice ideas - especially
for small and mid-sized companies that do not have human resource departments.
